Oman Consulate Attestation in Dubai

Oman sits close enough that people assume the paperwork is casual. It is not. A document crossing that border for official use needs the same chain as one flying to the other side of the world.

How do you attest a document for Oman from Dubai?

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs attests the document first, at AED 150 for a personal document or AED 2,000 for a commercial one. The Omani mission then adds its own legalisation. Residents of Dubai and the northern emirates use the Consulate General in Dubai rather than the embassy in Abu Dhabi.

Which Omani mission should you use?

Oman maintains an embassy in Abu Dhabi and a consulate general in Dubai. For anyone living or trading in Dubai and the northern emirates, the Dubai consulate is the right venue for the final stamp.

It is a small point that costs a whole day when it goes wrong, because the two are an hour and a half apart and neither will process what belongs to the other.

  • Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah use the Dubai consulate
  • Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are served by the embassy
  • Check the venue before travelling, not after
  • We file at the correct mission as part of the service

What has to be stamped before the Omani counter?

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in every case. The Omani mission is verifying that ministry's stamp, so its absence ends the matter before it starts.

Where the document was issued outside the UAE, there is an earlier chain again: the issuing country's own foreign ministry, then the UAE mission in that country. Only then does the UAE ministry attest it here.

  • UAE-issued document: issuing authority, then UAE MOFA, then the Omani mission
  • Foreign document: origin country ministry, UAE mission abroad, UAE MOFA, Omani mission
  • Commercial documents take a chamber of commerce step before the ministry
  • A missing UAE ministry stamp stops the file at the counter

Which documents commonly go to Oman?

Employment files above all — degrees, experience letters and police clearance for an Omani work permit. Then education, where a school or university in Oman wants attested transcripts, and family documents for residency.

Company paperwork is the other half: trade licences, memoranda and board resolutions for registering or trading in Oman.

  • Degrees, transcripts and experience letters for employment
  • School records and equivalency papers for education
  • Marriage and birth certificates for family residency
  • Trade licence, memorandum and resolutions for company registration

Does anything need translating?

Arabic is the working language on the Omani side, and a receiving authority will generally want the document in it. Use a translator whose work is recognised, and do it once the stamps are on.

Translating first is a false economy. Every stamp added afterwards is a stamp the translation does not mention.

  • Arabic translation is normally expected by the receiving authority
  • Ministry of Justice licensed translators, so the work is accepted
  • Translate after legalisation, not before
  • Keep translation and legalised original together

How we run an Oman legalisation file

  1. We confirm venue and purposeWhich Omani authority asked for it, and which mission has jurisdiction over you.
  2. Issuing authority and chamber stepCommercial documents go through the chamber of commerce first.
  3. UAE ministry attestationFiled with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs at AED 150 personal or AED 2,000 commercial.
  4. Omani mission legalisationSubmitted at the Consulate General in Dubai, with the fee confirmed on the day.
  5. Arabic translationArranged after the chain is complete, through a licensed translator.
  6. ReturnOriginals back with every stamp, plus a scan for your file.

The mistake we see most: Driving to Abu Dhabi with a Dubai file. The embassy there covers Abu Dhabi and Al Ain; Dubai and the northern emirates belong to the consulate in Dubai. It is a three-hour round trip to be told to come back to the emirate you started in.
MSM tip: If the document is going to an Omani employer, ask them in writing which authority will receive it. Ministry, university and free zone recipients each have their own expectations about translation and about how recent the attestation has to be.

What documents do you need?

What we need from you

The original document, with any stamps already on it
Passport copy of the holder, or trade licence for a company document
Emirates ID where the holder is a UAE resident
The name of the Omani authority or employer requesting it
For commercial files, chamber of commerce membership details
Your deadline, so we can advise on express versus standard

The item that most often causes a delay is a document issued outside the UAE that has not been legalised in its own country yet. Nothing on this side can substitute for that step, and it usually has to be arranged by someone still there.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I use the Dubai consulate or the Abu Dhabi embassy?
Dubai and the northern emirates — Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah — use the Consulate General in Dubai. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are served by the embassy.
Does UAE MOFA attestation come first?
Yes. The Omani mission is verifying the UAE ministry stamp, so it has to be there already. Without it the document is refused.
What does it cost?
AED 150 per personal document and AED 2,000 per commercial document on the UAE side. The Omani mission charges its own fee, confirmed at the counter on the day.
My degree was issued in India. Can you attest it for Oman here?
Only after it has been through the Indian chain and the UAE mission in India. Once it carries those stamps, UAE MOFA attests it here and the Omani mission finishes it.
Is an apostille enough for Oman?
No. Take the full legalisation route. An apostille on its own does not replace the chain for documents moving through the UAE to Oman.
How long does it take?
The UAE ministry step is three working days by courier or one on express. The mission step runs on its own schedule, so we confirm a date once the file is lodged.
