What is Indian embassy attestation in Dubai?

It is attestation of a document by the Consulate General of India in Dubai, so the document can be used in India. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs must stamp it first. Documents issued in India and destined for the UAE take the opposite route and are attested in India, not in Dubai.

Which way is your document travelling?

This is the question that decides whether you have a two-week job or a two-month one, and it is the one almost nobody asks first. An attestation chain only ever runs in one direction: the country where the document was issued signs it off, then the country where it will be used adds the last stamp.

So a Dubai marriage certificate that has to be registered in Kerala goes UAE ministry first, Indian consulate second. A Mumbai degree that an employer here wants to see never touches the Dubai consulate at all.

What does the Indian consulate in Dubai actually stamp?

It attests documents issued inside the UAE once the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has attested them. The consulate is confirming that the UAE ministry's stamp is genuine. It is not re-examining the document itself, which is why a missing ministry stamp ends the conversation at the counter.

Why do Indian documents get attested in India instead?

Because only the issuing country can vouch for its own paperwork. The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi will not attest a degree until the state authority that recognises that university has signed it. The UAE mission in India then legalises the MEA stamp.

By the time the document lands in Dubai it should already carry both. If it does not, it goes back.

What slows an Indian attestation down?

Rarely the counters. It is almost always a name that does not match across documents, a photocopy where an original was required, or a document sent to the wrong country to begin with.

Name mismatches are worth a paragraph of their own. Indian records frequently carry expanded initials, a father's name as a surname, or a spelling the passport does not use. Any of those can stop the file.

The mistake we see most: Someone flies an Indian degree to Dubai expecting the Indian consulate here to attest it for a UAE employer. It cannot. That document had to be attested in India, and it now has to go back. We have seen this cost six weeks and a job offer. Ask the direction question before anyone books a courier.

The one that most often causes a delay is the passport itself. The mission verifies against the original, so a document holder outside the country at the time of submission can stall an otherwise complete file. Tell us early if that applies and we will sequence around it.

Can the Indian consulate in Dubai attest my Indian degree?
No. A document issued in India is attested in India — state authority, then the Ministry of External Affairs, then the UAE mission there. The Dubai consulate attests UAE-issued documents going the other way.
Do I need MOFA attestation before the Indian consulate?
Yes, for a UAE-issued document. The consulate is verifying the UAE ministry's stamp, so that stamp has to be on the document already. Without it the file is refused at the counter.
What does it cost?
The UAE side is AED 150 per personal document and AED 2,000 for a commercial one. The Indian mission charges its own fee from a published schedule, which changes, so we confirm it at the time of filing rather than quoting an old figure.
Does the passport holder have to attend?
The original passport is presented for verification. The holder does not always have to stand at the counter, but the passport does have to be available, which matters if they are travelling.
How long does it take?
The UAE ministry step is quick — courier service is quoted at three working days, or one on express. The consulate step is set by the mission and moves with its own queue, so we give a date once the file is lodged.
Is a power of attorney handled the same way?
Yes, if it is drawn up in the UAE for use in India. It is notarised here, attested by the UAE ministry, then attested by the Indian consulate. The wording matters — an Indian sub-registrar can reject a POA that is vague about the property or the powers granted.
