Certificate Attestation for a Job Visa in Dubai

Not every job in Dubai needs an attested degree. Attesting one you did not need costs weeks; missing one you did costs the offer.

Do you need an attested degree for a Dubai job visa?

It depends on the role and the authority. Regulated professions and many government or semi-government employers require an attested degree, and some free zones ask for one. A large number of standard private-sector positions do not. The requirement comes from the employer and the licensing body, not from a single universal rule.

How do you find out whether you actually need it?

Ask the employer, in writing, and ask specifically. "Do you require my degree to be attested, and do you also require Ministry of Education equivalency?" Those are two different things and HR departments frequently conflate them.

A written answer is worth having, because it is what you will point to if the requirement changes mid-process.

  • Ask the employer in writing, before starting anything
  • Attestation and equivalency are separate requirements
  • Licensing bodies may impose their own requirement
  • Free zone employers sometimes differ from mainland ones

Which roles almost always need it?

Regulated professions: medicine, nursing, engineering, teaching, law and similar. Where a licensing body stands between you and practising, that body wants verified qualifications and usually an equivalency assessment on top.

Government and semi-government employers commonly require it too, regardless of the role.

  • Healthcare, engineering, teaching and legal roles
  • Anything requiring a professional licence
  • Government and semi-government employers
  • Some senior positions where the employer sets its own bar

What is the sequence if you do need it?

The origin country chain first — issuing authority, that country foreign ministry, the UAE mission there — then UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation on arrival at AED 150 for a personal document.

Equivalency, where required, comes after attestation and not before.

  • Origin country authentication chain
  • UAE mission in that country legalises
  • UAE MOFA attests on arrival
  • Equivalency last, where the role requires it

What else goes into an employment file?

Experience letters, and where they were issued abroad they may need the same treatment as the degree. Police clearance is required for some roles and some nationalities.

The common failure is a file where the degree is immaculate and everything else is an afterthought.

  • Experience letters, attested where issued abroad
  • Police clearance for some roles and nationalities
  • Professional licence documents where applicable
  • Passport with sufficient remaining validity

How we run an employment document file

  1. We ask what the employer actually requiresIn writing if possible. It decides whether any of this is needed.
  2. We audit what you holdPhotographs of each document and its stamps tell us what is usable already.
  3. Origin-country stepsIdentified and started first, because they are the slowest.
  4. UAE ministry attestationFiled for the documents that genuinely need it.
  5. EquivalencyOnly where the role or licensing body requires it.
  6. HandoverA complete file, with anything outstanding named clearly.

Does your role need attestation?

Typical requirement by role type
RoleAttested degreeEquivalency
Doctor, nurse or pharmacistYesUsually
Engineer in a licensed capacityYesOften
TeacherYesUsually
Standard office or sales roleOften notNo
Government or semi-government postYesUsually
The mistake we see most: Starting the whole attestation chain on the strength of a recruiter saying "you will probably need it". Half the time the employer never asks. Get the requirement confirmed in writing first — it takes one email and can save two months and a lot of money.
MSM tip: If you are still in your home country when the offer comes, attest the degree there before you fly, even if you are not certain it is needed. Doing it from Dubai afterwards costs several times as much in time and courier fees.

What documents do you need?

What we need

The employer written statement of what is required, if you have it
Degree certificate and transcripts
Experience letters, with dates and job titles
Passport copy with sufficient validity
The country each document was issued in
Your joining date, so we can work backwards

The detail that most often causes wasted work is an unconfirmed requirement. Ask the employer before attesting anything; it is the cheapest step in the whole process.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions

Does every Dubai job need an attested degree?
No. Regulated professions and many government employers require it; a large number of standard private-sector roles do not. Confirm with the employer before attesting anything.
What is the difference between attestation and equivalency?
Attestation proves the document is genuine. Equivalency decides what academic level it represents in the UAE. Some roles need both, many need neither.
Should I attest before or after getting the offer?
If you are still in your home country, doing it before you fly is far cheaper. From Dubai the origin-country steps become slow and expensive.
Do experience letters need attesting?
Where they were issued abroad and the employer or licensing body asks for them, generally yes, through the same chain as the degree.
How long does it take?
The origin-country steps dominate and vary by country. The UAE step is quick once the document arrives complete.
What if my joining date is close?
Tell us the date. We sequence around it and tell you honestly what can and cannot be done in the time available.
