Wife Visa in Dubai

Spouse sponsorship turns on one document more than any other, and it is usually the one sitting in a drawer in another country. The marriage certificate has to be attested before anything else can move.

How do you sponsor a wife for a Dubai residence visa?

A resident sponsors a spouse by applying for an entry permit, then completing the in-country steps: medical fitness test, Emirates ID biometrics and residence visa stamping. The marriage certificate must be attested and, where it is not in Arabic or English, legally translated before the application is filed.

Why does the marriage certificate cause most of the delay?

Because it was almost always issued somewhere else, and a foreign civil document is not usable here until it has been through its own country chain: the issuing authority, that country foreign ministry, the UAE mission there, and then the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs on arrival.

None of that can be started from Dubai. It is the one part of the application that depends on someone else, in another country, and it sets the real timeline.

  • Issuing authority in the country of marriage
  • That country foreign ministry attestation
  • UAE mission in that country legalises it
  • UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs attests once it arrives here

What happens once she arrives?

The entry permit gets her into the country, and then the in-country sequence runs: medical fitness test, Emirates ID biometrics, and residence visa stamping. Each step depends on the one before it, so a missed appointment pushes everything back rather than just itself.

These are the parts we can control and schedule tightly.

  • Entry permit issued before travel
  • Medical fitness test after arrival
  • Emirates ID biometrics appointment
  • Residence visa stamped once results clear

What about translation?

A marriage certificate in a language other than Arabic or English needs a legal translation by a Ministry of Justice licensed translator. Do it after the attestation stamps are complete, not before, or the translation will not match the document it is attached to.

This trips up couples who translate early to be organised.

  • Ministry of Justice licensed translator required
  • Translate after attestation, not before
  • Keep translation attached to the attested original
  • Names must match the passport spelling exactly

What is the most common reason an application stalls?

A name that does not match. Marriage certificates frequently record a maiden name, an expanded initial or a spelling the passport does not use, and the mismatch surfaces at exactly the wrong moment.

The second most common is insurance that does not meet the requirement, bought quickly to tick a box.

  • Name differences between certificate and passport
  • Insurance that does not satisfy the residence requirement
  • Missing steps in the attestation chain
  • Sponsor documents out of date, such as an expired tenancy contract

How we run a spouse sponsorship

  1. We audit the marriage certificate firstWhere it was issued and what stamps it carries. This decides the timeline more than anything else.
  2. Attestation and translationArranged or advised on, in the correct order.
  3. Sponsor fileSalary evidence, tenancy and Emirates ID assembled and checked.
  4. Entry permitApplied for once the file is complete.
  5. Medical and Emirates IDAppointments booked and attended, in sequence.
  6. Stamping and handoverResidence visa stamped, with the renewal date given to you in writing.

Where was your marriage certificate issued?

India, Pakistan or the PhilippinesFull origin chain, then UAE MOFALongest; start immediately

The mistake we see most: Booking the wife flights before the marriage certificate attestation has even started. The entry permit depends on that document, and the chain runs through offices in another country that do not know about the ticket. Start the certificate first, book travel second.
MSM tip: Check the spelling of her name on the marriage certificate against her passport today, before anything is filed. If they differ, that is fixable now and expensive to fix once an application is in progress.

What documents do you need?

What we need

Attested marriage certificate, with legal translation where required
Passport copies for both spouses
Sponsor Emirates ID and residence visa page
Sponsor salary evidence and employment contract
Tenancy contract, registered as required
Passport-style photographs

The document that most often causes a delay is the marriage certificate, because attestation happens abroad. If it is not already attested, treat that as the first task and everything else as secondary.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the salary requirement to sponsor a wife?
There is a minimum salary condition, and it is set by the authorities rather than by us. Our family visa salary guide covers the current position; we confirm it against your specific contract before filing.
Does the marriage certificate need attestation?
Yes, if it was issued outside the UAE. It has to complete the chain in its own country and then be attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs here.
Can she enter before the visa is finished?
She enters on the entry permit, then completes the medical, Emirates ID and stamping inside the country. That is the normal sequence.
Do we need health insurance?
Yes. Health insurance is a condition of residence and must be in place. Check it meets the requirement rather than buying the cheapest policy available.
What if our marriage certificate is in another language?
It needs a legal translation by a Ministry of Justice licensed translator, done after the attestation stamps are complete.
How long does the whole thing take?
The in-country part is usually quick. The variable is attestation of the marriage certificate abroad, which can take weeks and is outside anyone here controlling it.
