How do you cancel a family visa in Dubai?

The sponsor applies to cancel the dependant residence visa, and the Emirates ID is surrendered as part of the process. Where the sponsor own visa is also ending, dependants are normally cancelled first. A grace period follows cancellation, during which the dependant must leave or move onto another visa.

Why does the order matter?

Because a dependant visa hangs off the sponsor visa. Cancel the sponsor first and the dependants are left attached to something that no longer exists, which turns a routine cancellation into an untangling exercise.

What is the grace period for?

To give the person time to leave the country or move onto another visa. It is a defined period after cancellation, and staying beyond it moves someone into overstay with the fines that follow.
