Parent Sponsorship

Parents Visa in Dubai

Sponsoring parents is the hardest of the family routes, and the one where insurance stops being a formality. For older applicants it becomes the whole conversation.

Can you sponsor your parents in Dubai?

Yes, but the conditions are stricter than for a spouse or child. A higher income threshold applies, health insurance covering older applicants is required, and a deposit is commonly involved. Both parents are normally sponsored together rather than one alone.

Why is parent sponsorship harder than spouse sponsorship?

Because the state is taking on a longer-term commitment for people who are more likely to need healthcare and less likely to work. The income threshold is higher, a deposit is commonly required, and the insurance requirement is real rather than nominal.

None of that makes it unusual or discouraged. It makes it a different application with a higher bar, and it is worth knowing where you stand before starting.

  • Higher income threshold than other family routes
  • Deposit commonly required
  • Insurance requirement is substantive for older applicants
  • Both parents normally sponsored together

What makes the insurance difficult?

Age and pre-existing conditions. Policies for older applicants cost considerably more, and many exclude exactly the conditions that matter. A policy that satisfies the residence requirement on paper but excludes your mother diabetes is not much use to your family.

Get quotes before you commit to the application, not after. It is frequently the deciding factor.

  • Premiums rise sharply with age
  • Pre-existing condition exclusions need reading carefully
  • The policy must satisfy the residence requirement
  • Price the insurance before starting the application

What if you do not meet the threshold?

Then a long visit visa is the honest alternative, and for many families it works better than they expect. Parents visit for a couple of months, return home, and come again — without the deposit, the insurance burden or the ongoing renewal cycle.

We would rather tell you that than take a fee for an application that will not succeed.

  • A longer visit visa avoids the deposit and insurance burden
  • Repeat visits suit many families better than residence
  • Residence makes sense where parents need to be here permanently
  • We will say plainly when the threshold is not met

What documents are involved?

Proof of relationship, which is where families with differing surnames or older records run into difficulty. Birth certificates for the sponsor showing the parents names are commonly used, and those may need attestation from the country of issue.

Sponsor income evidence, tenancy and insurance complete the file.

  • Proof of relationship, attested where issued abroad
  • Sponsor salary evidence and employment contract
  • Registered tenancy contract
  • Insurance meeting the residence requirement

The mistake we see most: Starting the application before pricing the insurance. For older parents the premium can exceed everything else combined, and families discover it after committing time and money to a file that then stalls. Get the quotes in week one.
MSM tip: Ask the insurer in writing how the policy treats your parents specific existing conditions, and keep the reply. Verbal assurances at a sales desk have a way of not surviving a hospital admission.

What documents do you need?

What we need

Passport copies for both parents
Proof of relationship, attested where issued abroad
Sponsor Emirates ID, visa page and passport
Sponsor salary certificate and employment contract
Registered tenancy contract
Insurance quotes or policy for each parent

The document that most often causes difficulty is proof of relationship, particularly where surnames differ across generations or the sponsor birth certificate is old and held abroad. Identify it early.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sponsor only my mother?
Parents are normally sponsored together rather than individually. Where one parent has died or the circumstances are unusual, the position differs and we will check it for your case.
What income do I need?
A higher threshold applies than for spouse or child sponsorship. The figure is set by the authorities and we confirm it against your contract before you commit.
Is a deposit required?
A deposit is commonly involved in parent sponsorship. Budget for it alongside the insurance rather than treating it as a surprise.
Why is insurance such an issue?
Premiums rise steeply with age and many policies exclude pre-existing conditions. It is frequently the factor that decides whether residence is realistic for a family.
What if I do not qualify?
A long visit visa is the practical alternative and suits many families well. We would rather point you there than take a fee for an application that will fail.
How long does it take?
The in-country steps move at a normal pace. The variable parts are attesting proof of relationship from abroad and arranging insurance that actually meets the requirement.
