What do you need to drive from Dubai to Oman?

A valid Oman visa or e-visa where your nationality requires one, a passport with sufficient validity, and your UAE residence documents. The vehicle also needs its own paperwork: motor insurance extended to cover Oman, and for a car that is not yours, a no-objection letter from the owner or the finance company.

Why does the car cause more problems than the visa?

The mistake we see most: Assuming comprehensive UAE insurance covers Oman because it says comprehensive. It does not. The Oman extension is a separate arrangement and has to be evidenced on paper at the crossing. Check the policy wording, not the word on the cover.
