Oman Tourist Visa from Dubai

Musandam is two and a half hours from Dubai. The paperwork for getting there takes longer to think about than the drive does, which is why people leave it too late.

How do you get an Oman tourist visa from Dubai?

Either you do not need one in advance, because your nationality allows visa-free entry or your GCC residence permit covers you on arrival, or you apply for an eVisa through the Royal Oman Police portal. Confirmed accommodation and onward travel support the application. Which of those applies is settled before booking rather than at the border.

The weekend trip problem

Oman is close enough that people treat it like driving to Fujairah, and then discover on Thursday evening that somebody in the car needs an approval that takes days.

Check on Monday. It is a five-minute question that protects the whole weekend.

  • Check every traveller, not just the driver
  • Approvals take days, not hours
  • A Thursday realisation is usually too late
  • The check itself costs nothing

Musandam, Muscat and the practical difference

Musandam is the short road trip, usually via the northern border posts. Muscat and Salalah are flights. The entry rules do not change between them, but what you want in the glovebox does.

Our road page covers the drive itself, including which posts to use and what the crossing is actually like.

  • Musandam: road trip, northern border posts
  • Muscat and Salalah: usually flown
  • The visa route is the same either way
  • The practicalities at the border are not

How do Oman visitor routes apply to spouses and children?

Review the main traveller and accompanying relatives together. Oman's published short-stay conditions include an accompanying-family provision; a spouse is not automatically excluded from every visitor route.

Check each passport, residence status and accompanying adult. Separate travel dates or a newly issued passport need their own review. For an Indian passport, see the conditional Indian UAE-resident route.

  • List all adults and children
  • Check the applicable route for the family circumstances
  • Prepare relationship evidence if requested
  • Keep the same passport details across bookings and applications

Where you are staying

Check accommodation evidence against the particular entry route. Do not assume a camping plan or a private-host address satisfies a category that requests a hotel reservation.

Tell MSM how the family plans to travel and stay before the file is prepared. The official authority decides what evidence is acceptable.

  • Confirm the required accommodation format
  • Match traveller names and dates
  • Resolve unclear evidence before relying on the route

The mistake we see most: Checking only the person who booked the trip. Groups travel on mixed passports, and the one friend who needs an eVisa is invariably the one nobody asked until the night before.
MSM tip: If you make this trip regularly, check whether a multiple-entry option suits you better than applying each time. For anyone crossing more than twice a year it usually does, and it removes the Thursday-night scramble permanently.

What documents do you need?

What we need

Passport copy for every traveller
Emirates ID and residence permit for each
Travel dates in and out
Whether you are driving or flying
Accommodation details
Children's documents where they are travelling

Send the whole party at once, including children and anyone on a different passport. Checking people one at a time is how the problem gets found late.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a visa for a weekend in Musandam?
Check your nationality, residence evidence and intended entry category. A short trip does not automatically qualify for an exemption.
How far ahead should I apply?
Allow days rather than hours. Deciding on Thursday for a Friday departure is the single most common way these trips fall apart.
Do children need their own visa?
Where an application is required, yes, each child needs their own with their own documents.
We are a group on different passports. Does that matter?
Very much. Mixed groups routinely split across routes, and one person needing an approval sets the timing for everyone.
Is a hotel booking required?
The requirement depends on the applicable route. Confirm the requested evidence before assuming another accommodation arrangement is acceptable.
Is driving different from flying?
The entry rules are the same. The practicalities at a land border are not, and our road page covers those.
Can I extend the Oman 14-day visa-free stay?
The Foreign Ministry describes this facility as non-extendable and not convertible to residence. Choose the appropriate permission before planning a longer stay.
