What is a court certified translation in the UAE?

It is a translation prepared by a Ministry of Justice licensed legal translator for use in UAE court proceedings. Arabic is the language of the courts, so documents in any other language must be translated by a licensed translator before they can be relied on in a filing.

Why is court translation different?

Because the words become the case. In an administrative file a clumsy phrase is a nuisance; in a filing it is the thing the other side reads and the judge relies on. Legal terminology does not map one-to-one between English and Arabic, and a term chosen loosely can shift the meaning of a clause.

What usually has to be translated?

Contracts in dispute, correspondence relied on as evidence, foreign judgments, witness statements, company records and any exhibit not already in Arabic.

Where a foreign judgment or a document issued abroad is involved, attestation is usually required as well, and it has to be done before translation.

How do deadlines actually work?

The court sets them and they do not move because a translation is running late. That makes turnaround planning part of the legal strategy rather than an afterthought, particularly with a large bundle.

What about documents issued abroad?

They usually need attestation before they can be used, through the chain in the issuing country and then the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Translation comes after that, so it reflects the fully stamped document.

Foreign judgments in particular carry their own requirements, and it is worth raising them early rather than at the filing stage.

The mistake we see most: Sending a bundle for translation a few days before filing, with defined terms that were never agreed with the lawyer. The translator makes reasonable choices, the lawyer disagrees with three of them, and the whole bundle has to be revisited under deadline pressure. Agree the key terms first.
