30-Day Visit Visa Extension in Dubai

An extension is a different application from the visa it extends, with its own conditions and its own deadline. The deadline is the one people miss.

How do you extend a Dubai visit visa by 30 days?

The extension is applied for from inside the UAE before the current stay expires. It is a separate application with its own conditions rather than an automatic continuation, and it lets you stay without leaving and re-entering. Once the stay has lapsed the position changes and fines begin.

Why is the timing so unforgiving?

Because an extension is granted against a stay that is still running. Once the stay has ended there is nothing left to extend, and what you have instead is an overstay to resolve.

The practical margin is smaller than people assume. Leaving it to the last two days removes any room for a query or a missing document, and queries do happen.

  • Apply while the current stay is still valid
  • Leave several days of margin, not hours
  • A query mid-application eats the remaining time
  • After expiry it becomes an overstay matter instead

Is every visit visa extendable?

No. It depends on the visa type and how it was issued, and some categories cannot be extended at all. That is worth establishing at the point you apply for the original visa, not when you are trying to stay longer.

Where an extension is not available, the alternatives are an exit and re-entry on a fresh visa, or changing status to a residence visa if you have grounds.

  • Eligibility depends on the original visa type
  • Some categories cannot be extended
  • An exit and re-entry is the fallback
  • A status change may be possible if you have grounds

What does it save you compared with a visa run?

A flight, a day, and the risk attached to re-entry. A border run is a legitimate route and plenty of people use it, but it costs money and time and it is not guaranteed to go smoothly.

Extending in country removes all of that, which is why it is the first thing we check.

  • No flight or border crossing needed
  • No day lost travelling
  • No re-entry risk
  • Usually cheaper once travel is counted

What if you need longer than one extension?

Then the honest answer is usually that a visit visa is the wrong instrument. Repeated extensions get harder, and someone who genuinely needs several months here should be looking at whether a residence route applies.

We would rather have that conversation than keep extending something that was designed for a short stay.

  • Repeated extensions become harder
  • A residence route may be the better answer
  • Job offers can trigger a status change instead
  • Company setup opens the partner visa route

How we handle an extension

  1. We check the expiry date firstThe real last day of stay, not the date you think it is.
  2. Eligibility checkWhether your visa type can be extended at all.
  3. DocumentsPassport and current visa details confirmed before filing.
  4. ApplicationFiled from inside the country, before expiry.
  5. New date confirmedThe revised last day given to you in writing.
  6. Alternatives, if refusedExit and re-entry, or a status change if you have grounds.

Extension or the alternatives?

What suits your situation
SituationUsually best

Visa already expiredResolve the overstay first
Visa type not extendableExit and re-entry
Found a job hereStatus change to employment
Need several more monthsLook at a residence route
The mistake we see most: Counting the stay from the wrong date and applying two days after it actually ended. The visa PDF shows an entry-window date and a duration, and people read the wrong one. Confirm the real last day the moment you land, not the week you want to extend.
MSM tip: Put the last day of stay in your phone calendar with a reminder ten days ahead, on the day you arrive. Ten days is enough to extend calmly, arrange a flight, or start a status change. Two days is not enough for any of them.

What documents do you need?

What we need

Passport copy and current visit visa
Entry stamp or arrival date
Emirates ID of the sponsor, where a resident sponsored the visit
Reason for extending, which affects the options
Any fines already received
Your intended departure date

The detail that most often causes a problem is an uncertain arrival date. The stay counts from entry, so if you are not sure when you landed, tell us and we will confirm it before filing.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I apply for an extension?
Before the current stay expires, with several days of margin. Once it has lapsed there is nothing to extend and you are dealing with an overstay instead.
Can every visit visa be extended?
No. It depends on the visa type and how it was issued, and some categories cannot be extended. We confirm eligibility before filing.
Do I need to leave the country?
Not for an extension — that is the point of it. A border run is the fallback where an extension is not available.
How many times can I extend?
Repeated extensions get progressively harder. If you need several more months, a residence route is usually the better conversation.
What if I already overstayed?
Fines accrue daily. It is resolvable, and acting immediately keeps it small. Tell us the real dates rather than the ones you hoped for.
Can I extend if I found a job?
You may not need to. A job offer can trigger a status change to an employment visa, often without leaving the country.
