A maid visa renewal is an employment renewal, and the employer is you. The obligations that come with that do not pause because the paperwork is unfamiliar.
The sponsoring household applies before the current visa expires. The employment contract is renewed, health insurance must be valid for the new term, and the worker repeats the medical fitness test and Emirates ID renewal. The residence visa is then stamped for a further term.

Three things at once: the employment contract, the health insurance and the residence visa. They are connected, and a gap in any one of them stalls the others.
Households that treat this as a single visa transaction are the ones caught out by an insurance policy that quietly lapsed months earlier.
The same ones that applied at the start: a compliant contract, wages paid as agreed, accommodation, and the insurance. Renewal is a reasonable moment to check that the arrangement in practice still matches the arrangement on paper.
Where terms have changed by agreement — hours, duties, salary — the renewed contract should say so rather than repeating the old wording.
Timing matters. A residence visa has limits on how long the holder can remain outside the country before it is affected, and a long home leave that overlaps a renewal creates avoidable complications.
Plan leave and renewal together rather than discovering the clash after the flights are booked.
Fines accrue, and the worker is out of status through no fault of their own. It is the household that carries the responsibility, and it is worth taking that seriously rather than treating the date as flexible.
