Maid Visa Cancellation in Dubai

Cancelling a maid visa is the end of an employment relationship, not just a form. The dues, the ticket and the timing are all part of doing it properly.

How do you cancel a maid visa in Dubai?

The sponsoring household files the cancellation and surrenders the Emirates ID. End-of-service entitlements and, where the contract provides for it, the repatriation ticket are settled as part of ending the employment. A grace period follows, during which the worker must leave or transfer to another sponsor.

What has to be settled before it closes?

Outstanding wages, any end-of-service entitlement, and the repatriation ticket where the contract provides for one. These are obligations rather than courtesies, and settling them is part of cancelling properly.

Doing this cleanly also protects the household. A dispute raised afterwards is far harder to resolve than a payment made at the time with a record kept.

  • Outstanding wages paid in full
  • End-of-service entitlement calculated and settled
  • Repatriation ticket where the contract requires it
  • Keep a record of what was paid and when

Can she transfer to another household instead?

Often yes, and it is frequently the better outcome for everyone. A transfer avoids repatriation costs for you and keeps continuity for her, and it is worth raising before anything is cancelled.

The transfer has to be arranged rather than assumed, and it is much simpler from a live visa than from a cancelled one.

  • Transfer to a new sponsor is often possible
  • Simpler from a live visa than a cancelled one
  • Avoids repatriation cost for the household
  • Raise it before filing the cancellation

How does the grace period work?

It runs from cancellation and gives the worker time to leave or move to a new sponsor. Beyond it she is in overstay, and the practical consequences fall on her rather than on the household that let the clock run.

Tell her the date clearly, in writing, in a language she reads.

  • Runs from cancellation, not from the last working day
  • Time to depart or transfer sponsor
  • Overstay begins once it lapses
  • Communicate the date clearly and in writing

What does doing it badly look like?

A visa left uncancelled after someone has gone home, dues unsettled, and an Emirates ID still in a drawer. Months later the household tries to sponsor someone new and discovers the old record is still open.

It is a small amount of work at the time and a genuine nuisance afterwards.

  • An open record blocks sponsoring someone new
  • Unsettled dues can resurface as a dispute
  • Emirates ID should be collected before departure
  • Confirm the cancellation actually completed

How we run a maid visa cancellation

  1. We check for a transfer option firstIt is often better for both sides than cancelling outright.
  2. Dues calculationOutstanding wages and end-of-service entitlement, worked out properly.
  3. Cancellation filingSubmitted with the Emirates ID surrendered.
  4. Ticket and departureArranged where the contract provides for it.
  5. Grace period briefingThe date supplied in writing, for both parties.
  6. ConfirmationRecorded status verified so the file is genuinely closed.

What is your situation?

Cancellation by circumstance
SituationWhat normally happens
She is going home permanentlySettle dues, cancel, arrange the ticket
She has found another householdExplore transfer before cancelling
The family is leaving the UAECancel her visa before your own
She left without noticeTake advice; there is a proper process
Contract ended by agreementSettle dues and cancel cleanly
The mistake we see most: Putting her on a flight home and dealing with the cancellation later. The visa stays open, the Emirates ID is gone with her, and the household finds out months afterwards when it tries to sponsor a replacement. Cancel before she flies, not after.
MSM tip: If she has another household lined up, raise the transfer before you cancel anything. Transferring from a live visa is straightforward; restarting from a cancelled one costs both sides time and money.

What documents do you need?

What we need

Passport and current visa copy for the worker
Her Emirates ID
Sponsor Emirates ID and passport
The employment contract
Details of any dues already settled
Departure date, or details of a new sponsor

The item most often missing is the Emirates ID, because the worker has already travelled with it. Collect the card before she flies; retrieving it afterwards is a real nuisance.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to pay end-of-service?
Entitlements arising from the employment have to be settled as part of ending it properly. Calculate it, pay it, and keep a record.
Do I have to buy her ticket home?
Where the contract provides for repatriation, yes. Check what you actually signed rather than what is customary.
Can she transfer to another family?
Often yes, and it is usually better for both sides. Raise it before cancelling, because transferring from a live visa is much simpler.
When does the grace period start?
From cancellation of the residence visa. Tell her the date clearly and in writing.
What if she left without telling me?
There is a proper process for that situation. Take advice rather than simply leaving the visa open, because an open record affects you later.
Can I sponsor someone new straight away?
Only once the previous file is genuinely closed. An uncancelled visa is the usual reason a replacement application stalls.

Ending a domestic worker sponsorship?

Tell us the situation. We will close it properly, dues and ticket included.
