Emirates ID Replacement in Dubai

Losing your Emirates ID is not an emergency, but leaving it lost is. Half the things you do in a week in this country ask for the card.

How do you replace a lost Emirates ID in Dubai?

A replacement application is filed with ICP, supported by your passport and residence visa details and, where the card was lost or stolen rather than damaged, usually a report of the loss. The application is typed and submitted, and a new card is issued and collected. Reporting it promptly matters, because a card in circulation is an identity document in someone else's hands.

Lost, stolen, or just broken

They are three different conversations. A card that has snapped or delaminated is a straightforward replacement, and bringing the damaged card in with you helps. A card that is genuinely missing needs reporting, because it is an identity document that somebody else may now be holding.

Be honest about which one it is. It changes the file.

  • Damaged: bring the card in, straightforward replacement
  • Lost: report it, then apply
  • Stolen: report it promptly, the misuse risk is real
  • Do not describe a lost card as damaged to save a step

What stops working while you wait

More than people expect. Bank counters, telecom shops, government service centres, some medical appointments and anything using UAE Pass identity verification. It is not merely inconvenient if you are mid-transaction on something.

If you have a property transfer or a visa step in progress, say so. It changes the urgency.

  • Banking and telecom transactions need the card
  • Government service centres will ask for it
  • Identity verification apps depend on it
  • Tell us if a transaction is in progress

Lost while you are outside the country

This is the awkward one. Losing the card abroad raises the question of re-entry, and the answer depends on your residence status and how long you will be away.

Do not simply fly back and hope. Call from where you are; it is a solvable problem handled early.

  • Re-entry position depends on your residence status
  • Time outside the UAE matters to that position
  • Deal with it before travelling back, not after
  • The passport and visa record still exist; the card is a token

What we actually do

We establish which case you are in, arrange the report where one is needed, type and file the application, and track the card to collection. If biometrics are required, we tell you before you rearrange your week rather than after.

It is a small job. It is also one people put off for months, which is the expensive part.

  • Case established: lost, stolen or damaged
  • Report arranged where required
  • Application typed and filed with ICP
  • Card tracked through to collection

How we handle a replacement

  1. Tell us what happenedLost, stolen or damaged. It decides the file.

  3. Type and fileApplication submitted to ICP.
  4. Biometrics if requiredTold in advance, not on the day.

The mistake we see most: Waiting a few weeks in case it turns up. It rarely does, penalties accrue on an expired card in the meantime, and you spend the whole period unable to complete anything that asks for identity verification.
MSM tip: Photograph both sides of every family member's Emirates ID and keep the images somewhere you can reach from a phone. Replacing a card is far quicker when the number is to hand, and it is the one thing you cannot look up once the card is gone.

What documents do you need?

What we need

Passport copy, photo page
Residence visa page or details
Your Emirates ID number if you have it recorded
The damaged card, where you still have it
Details of when and where it was lost
Whether you are currently inside or outside the UAE

If you have a photograph of the old card, send it. The number alone saves a surprising amount of time at the filing stage.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I do first if I lose my Emirates ID?
Report it rather than waiting. A missing identity card can be misused, and the report is also part of the replacement file.
Do I need a police report?
For a lost or stolen card, a report of the loss is normally part of the file. A damaged card you still hold is a simpler case.
How much does replacement cost?
ICP sets the fee, and there can be a penalty where the card was also expired. We confirm the current figures rather than quoting numbers that move.
Will I need to give biometrics again?
Sometimes. Where it is required we tell you in advance so you can plan the appointment rather than discovering it on the day.
I lost it while travelling. What now?
Deal with the re-entry position before you fly back. Your residence record still exists; the card is a token of it, and the situation is solvable when handled early.
My card is lost and expired. Two jobs?
They are handled together rather than separately, which is both faster and cheaper than treating them as two errands.
