Establishment Card Renewal
Renewing a company immigration establishment card before it lapses.
Closing Down
Closing a company is a sequence, not a decision. Cancel the card before the staff visas and you have made the rest of it considerably harder.
By clearing everything that sits on the immigration file first. Every employee residence visa sponsored by the company has to be cancelled, and their dependants with them, before the card itself can be closed. The card is then cancelled as part of winding the company down, and it usually has to be done before the licence can be cleanly cancelled.
| Order | Staff visas, then dependants, then the card |
|---|---|
| Then | Licence cancellation and liquidation |
| Authorities | ICP and GDRFA for the immigration file |
| Also settle | Outstanding fines and labour matters |
| Risk if skipped | It attaches to the owner later |
| Keep | Written confirmation of closure |

Employee visas first, their dependants alongside them, then the establishment card, then the licence. Every step out of order costs time, and some of them cost considerably more than time.
Owners in a hurry try to start at the end. It does not work and it usually makes the middle harder.
Every person you cancel starts a grace period, and it runs whether or not the rest of your wind-down is going smoothly. Someone who needs to find another sponsor or leave the country is working to a deadline you set.
Tell them the dates. It is the decent thing and it also prevents disputes landing back on the file.
It attaches to the people behind the company. Owners and managers find it years afterwards when applying for something new, and by then the records are cold and the other shareholders are unreachable.
Close it properly while everyone is still speaking to each other.
Sometimes what is wanted is a pause rather than a closure, or a move between free zones, or a restructure that keeps the entity alive. Those are different jobs with different sequences.
Say which one it is before anything is cancelled, because some of this is hard to reverse.
| Step | What it depends on |
|---|---|
| Cancel employee visas | Nothing; this goes first |
| Cancel employee dependants | Done alongside their sponsor |
| Cancel establishment card | An empty immigration file |
| Cancel labour file | Work permits all closed |
| Cancel trade licence | The above being complete |
| Liquidation | The licence being cancelled |
List everybody, including staff who left months ago without being cancelled. Those are the ones that stop the closure, and they are the ones owners forget.
The parent service.
The step that follows.
If you are not closing after all.
