How do you change a company trade name in Dubai?

The new name is reserved with the licensing authority, subject to the naming rules, and the licence is amended and reissued. For a mainland company the memorandum is updated too. The change then has to be carried through to the bank, the establishment card, employee visas and any registered contracts.

What happens after the licence is reissued?

The work most people did not budget for. The bank account has to be updated, the establishment card reissued, employee visa records amended, and the tenancy or Ejari corrected if it names the company.

Each of those is straightforward on its own. Together they are several weeks of follow-through, and skipping them leaves inconsistencies that surface at the next renewal.

What about contracts signed in the old name?

The company is the same legal entity, so contracts generally continue. That said, counterparties often want an addendum or at least written notice, and invoices in a name the client cannot match to their records cause payment delays.

What can stop a name being approved?

The naming rules, which restrict religious references, country and government names, offensive terms, and names too close to existing ones. Abbreviations and personal names carry their own conditions.

Is a name change always the right answer?

Not always. Where the aim is to trade under a different brand rather than change the entity, a separate approach may serve better, and where the business has genuinely changed direction the activities may need amending as well as the name.

The mistake we see most: Printing new stationery and updating the website the day the licence is reissued, while the bank account is still in the old name. Invoices go out under a name the bank cannot match, payments bounce back, and a month of receivables gets tangled. Update the bank first, then announce.
MSM tip: Have three candidate names ready before you start. Name rejection is common, and a company that has emotionally committed to one option ends up delaying the whole amendment while it argues for it.
