What is the difference between registering and paying?
This is where most of the confusion sits. Corporate tax was introduced for financial years starting on or after 1 June 2023, and a great many small Dubai companies concluded that because their profit was under AED 375,000 the whole thing did not apply to them.
It does. Registration is a filing obligation that attaches to being a taxable person, not to owing money. A company that registers, files a return and pays nothing is fully compliant. A company that earns nothing and never registers is not.
- Registration obligation applies regardless of profit
- A 0% rate is still a rate, and it still needs a return
- Free zone status changes what you pay, not whether you register
- Deregistration is a separate application when the business ceases
